- SOMMAIRE Tome 25. N° 4. Octobre-Décembre 1989
notobaka, 1 400 m, III-1957 (P. Griveaud). — Pays Betsileo, route du Sud, km 302, forêt
d'Ambatofitorahana, 1 600 m, 24-III-1955, 1 female, allotype; the same, 23-III-1955,
1 male, paratype (both P. Viette).
Notocelia albosectana (Mabille), n. comb. (fig. 53)
Steganoptycha albosectana Mabille, 1900, Annls Soc. ent. Fr., 68 : 752. — Viette, 1954, Mém. Inst. scient.
Madagascar (E), 5 : 379 (lectotype maie selected). — Diakonoff, 1959, Revue fr. Ent., 26 : 182, fig.
15, pl. 1, fig. 8 (lectotype and male genitalia figured). — Viette & Fletcher, 1968, Bull. Br. Mus.
nat. Hist. (Ent.), 21 : 392 (citation of the male lectotype).
Eucosma albosectana Mabille; Viette, 1948, Mém. Inst. scient. Madagascar, (A) 1 : 53.
Distribution. Madagascar Est, baie d'Antongil.
Madagascar Est : Baie d'Antongil, 1898 (A. Mocquerys), « Steganopt. », 1 female,
metallotype, GS 2330; the same data, 1 female, GS 10437.
Female genitalia (ovipositor missing). Ninth segment weak, little elongate. Apophyses slen-
der, elongate and straight. Seventh sternite moderately sclerotic, edge verrucose, deeply emargi-
nate. Ostium cup-shaped, sclerotic, transversely elongate, posterior edge longer, with sides rounded
broadly, anterior edge sinuate and folded. Colliculum abruptly and deeply constricted, below this
sclerotic moderate and tubular. Signa equal, punctulate, spines with dilated bases.
The markings of the metallotype which I compared closely, are so similar to those
of the male holotype that there is no doubt about the sexes being conspecific. The only
difference of markings is that the edge of the basai patch is concave along the lower 2/3
while in the male this edge is slightly angulate and prominent in the middle.
Male genitalia. These were described and figured by the author (1959).
Notocelia cycloides, n. sp. (fig. 19, 24, 29, 51-52)
Male 16 mm. Head creamy-white, side tufts on vertex strongly mixed with fuscous. Palpus
white, médian segment externally fuscous except apex, with a narrow subbasal transverse line with
a black dot above. Thorax creamy white, a broad dark fuscous band anteriorly not reaching to edges
of tegulae, an irregular transverse subapical band and tips of tegulae mixed with dark fuscous. Abdo-
men ochreous-whitish, dorsum irrorated with dark fuscous, venter whitish-ochreous.
Fore wing oblong-truncate, costa gently curved throughout, apex rounded, termen gently
concave, little oblique. Creamy-white, slightly strigulated with light tawny. Markings light tawny,
dark brown and black. Basai patch on costa to 1/3, on dorsum beyond 1/3, edge little oblique, gently
rounded-prominent in fold ; this patch whitish, transversely strigulated with dark fuscous, edge and
one or two complète subbasal streaks rather narrow, black, preceded by tawny; transverse fascia
formed by a triangular spot just below costa beyond middle, its top almost to lower edge of cell,
subtrancate, inner edge concave; on costa with three oblique black marks, anterior largest; below
costa with some leaden-grey suffusion ; lower part of transverse fascia formed by a moderate trape-
zoidal patch on 3/4 of dorsum, upper angles emitting slender lines : to top of triangle, and to a
smaller spot just beyond cell, respectively ; the latter spot with base horizontal, acute top pointing
towards costa before apex, connected by a line with a spindle-shaped obliquely-longitudinal prae-
terminal spot, narrowly connected with lower 3/4 of termen ; transverse fascia chiefly black-brown,
here and there edged and mixed with bright tawny ; the large suboval ocellus of pale ground colour
so formed in tornus is slightly centred with leaden-grey ; apex with a black spot, slightly mixed
with tawny and preceded by two oblique tawny transverse lines from costa to termen, anterior of
thèse becoming leaden-grey below ; posterior line mixed with black and running marginal to 3/4
of termen ; space between basai patch and transverse fascia with three narrow transverse strigulae,
on costa forming two minute black marks and a black spot between them ; a suboval inwards-oblique
conspicuous white spot below 2/3 of costa. Cilia whitish, with a subbasal and supra median narrow
and interrupted purplish lines, in tornus pale tawny.
Hind wing bright fuscous-tawny-ochreous with some gloss, hair tufts on veins towards base
distinctly blackish, costa glossy white. Cilia pale fuscous with a dark fuscous subbasal band.
Female 18-19 mm. Similar to the male, but palpus longer and more slender. Head light och-
reous. Edge of basai patch serrulate, not prominent in fold; subcostal patch oblique-rectangular more
