REDESCRIPTION
Maie. — Antennae usually brown with the third segment slightly longer than it is broad.
and twice as long as the second segment. Upper margin excavated all along, convex basally and
slightly concave apically (fig. 3). Ocellar triangle isoscelic with yellowish pilosity and a dark hair
tuft in the central ocellar région. Vertex triangle with an apical angle of 30°, ocellar triangle with
an apical angle of 40°. Eyes, face, front and occiput with well-developed whitish-yellow pilosity.
Thorax: Dorsum finely punctated, shiny metallic-green with uniform abundant and erect yellow
pilosity. Distinct grey longitudinal stripes. Most spécimens caught in the North of the Iberian Penin-
sula and Pto. Honduras (Sierra de Gâta) have a black transverse band of pilosity at the level of
wing insertion and indistinct or absent grey longitudinal stripes. Scutellum concolorous. Thoracie
sides with mesopleuron, pteropleuron and sternopleuron lustrous, pubescent as on dorsum. Wings
pale greyish. Squama yellowish. Haltères yellowish-brown.
Legs: Femora dark with yellow apical extremities. Tibiae yellowish-orange with dark médian
band. Tarsi V, IV and sometimes III, partially brown, tarsi I and II paler. Trochanters III armed
with a haired apophysis (fig. 4). Hind tibias with a small laminar prolongation in the apical extreme
Leg pubescence yellow.
Abdomen: Oval, with its widest part in the II tergite. Colour bluish-black with transverse
band of clear pubescence. First tergite brown. Tergite II with yellowish-grey transversal band.
interrupted in the middle and clearly évident. Anterior corners of this tergite orangish-yellow. Third
tergite with a similar band, always distinct and sometimes continuous, not interrupted in the middle.
Fourth tergite always with a continuous transversal band of pruinosity. The pubescence is short.
reclined and of the same colour as the tergite. Sternites with scattered, erect, light hairs. Posterior
margin of all tergites of a pale colour. The fourth sternite lightly arched, its hind margin is bilobu-
led (fig. 5).
Genitalia: Surstyle with two posterior prominences forming between them a semicircular
area (fig. 1). Anterior lobe of the surstyle, somewhat elongated with yellow erect pubescence. The
cercus is concave in its distal extrême with two latéral prominences. Aedeagus as figure 2.
Female. — Similar to the male except for normal sexual dimorphism and the following cha-
racteristics :
Head: Front shiny black in the central région with two lateral bands of silver pruinosity.
Light-haired with a group of black pilosity on the ocellar triangle area. Triangle ocellar equilateral.
Legs: Hind trochanters without apical laminar prolongation. Width of the front at the level
of the antennae insertion approximately 1/3 of the total width of the head.
Abdomen: Transversal bands of the tergites less conspicuous than in the male. Length : body
12-14 mm, wing 7-8.5 mm.
ECOLOGICAL DATA
The spécimens were caught with an entomological net between 8.30 a.m. and 5.00
p.m. and always in mountain areas situated between 500 and 1723 meters above sea level.
Their period of activity extends from early spring to later summer, although it must
be pointed out that most of the specimens were caught in the month of September.
