marked with purple and paler greyish-purple intemeural lines. Cilia pale fulvous with a dark ful-
vous subbasal band and a glossy pale basai line. Both wings strongly defaced, markings not well
traceable.
Hind wing semipellucent light golden-ochreous, with a strong gloss orangeish towards dor-
sum. Cilia pale golden-ochreous.
Male genitalia. Tegumen rather broad, shoulders straight. Uncus rather long, furcation mode-
rate, tips rounded. Socii long, to middle, gradually narrowed to slender tops, long haired throu-
ghout. Subscaphium with a round median part, concave, about one third of the length of subscaphium.
Valva rather short, deeply emarginate in middle, sacculus angular, cucullus rather short, regularly
oval, obliquely rising, densely bristled. Aedeagus short with a spherical base and a thick sheaf
of slender cornuti.
Madagascar Est : Environs de Périnet, forêt d'Analamazoatra, 910 m, 23-XII-1954
(P. Viette), 1 mâle, holotype, GS 2648.
A light coloured species, distinct by male genitalia and the pale glossy orangeish
hind wings.
Plutographa brochota, spec. nov. (fig. 18, 28, 51-52)
Male 15 mm. Head white, face centered with greyish. Antenna black, scape white. Palpus
moderate, ascending far from face, median segment strongly dilated, triangular, blackish; extreme
apex and inside white; terminal segment moderate, slender, subobtuse and smooth, black. Thorax
blackish-fuscous, in middle anteriorly suffused with white, tegula white-tipped. Abdomen glossy
dark grey.
Fore wing oblong-suboval, moderately broad, costa curved, more so anteriorly, apex suba-
cute, termen sinuate above, rounded beneath, slightly oblique. Rather light fuscous-grey touched
with lilac, dorsal markings silvery-white, other markings black. Basal patch reaching beyond 1/4
of costa, its upper half blackish, lower half fuscous-cinereous, its outer edge concave, prominent
in fold, its lower edge reaching to below fold, with two rounded prominences: anterior basai to
dorsum, posterior semioval, to halfway dorsal edge; costal edge beyond basai patch with eight pairs
of distinct silvery oblique strigulae, ultimate pair vertical more distant from others and from apex;
a moderate median transverve band, black with median half fuscous-grey, in fold connected with
basai patch, and just above middle of its outer edge emitting a branch to apex, concave below; ter-
minal area beyond this light cinereous centered with silvery-white; a white line along sinuation of
terminal edge below apex; dorsum silvery-white, slightly marbled with light fulvous and with a few
dark vertical strigulae. Cilia whitish.
Hind wing light bronze, with a greyish tinge becoming slightly paler towards base. Cilia
grey with a strong bronze-golden gloss and a paler basal line.
Male genitalia. Uncus rather long, furcate top with thin long branches, tips slightly down-
curved. Socii rather long, with broadly curved basal part and gradually narrowed thin haired tops.
Valva rather slender, slightly directed upwards, sacculus 1/3, constricted median part also 1/3, cucullus
obliquely rising, suboval, lower half spiny, costal half thinly long-haired, top almost naked. Aedeagus
moderate, rather robust moderately narrowed, straight; cornuti a sheaf of thin spines.
Female genitalia. Oblong, deeply and broadly emarginate from below, becoming a narrow
caudal bar, lateral bodies higher than broad, slightly narrowed below, surface densely and finely
wrinckled. Ostium transversely oval. Colliculum constricted, with thick walls, followed by a scle-
rotic cestum with a small triangular central sclerite. Corpus bursae punctulate. Signa subequal,
curved and flat, rather slender.
Madagascar Centre : Massif de l'Ankaratra, Manjakatompo, forêt d'Ambahona
(P. Griveaud), 1680 m, 4-VII-1956, 1 maie, holotype, GS 10699, 1 female, allotype,
GS 5930, ibidem, 1 710 m, 5/6-VII-1956, 1 male, paratype (abdomen missing).
The spécimens have the facies and the pattern of fore wing markings of the trans-
versa group of species, and resemble most the black and white species, e.g. P. dyspotma,
spec. nov.; the valva, however, resembling superficially that of P. pictura Diakonoff, sepa-
rates the present species that is very distinct also by the black Y-shaped dark marking,
traversing the fore wing.
