Madagascar Est : Massif du Marojejy, Ambodifiakarana, 1 600 m, XII-1958 (P. Gri-
veaud), 1 male, paratype, GS 5864 (head missing). — Env. de Périnet, forêt d'Analarna-
zaotra, 910 m, 28-XI-1954 (P. Viette), 1 male, holotype, GS 2644.
Xenosocia euryptycha, n. sp. (fig. 7, 40)
Male 14 mm. Head pale greyish, vertex roughish, dark fuscous, forehead and face rallier
distended and face prominent. Antenna slightly thickened, dark fuscous, ciliation 1/2, scape elon-
gate, thickened and dilated, appearing roughish. Palpus rather long, porrected, basai and médian
segments with appressed scales, apex of median pointed, terminal segment slender, moderately long,
acute; pale fuscous-grey. Thorax silvery, tegula long and slender, fulvous. Abdomen anthracite-
black, venter and anal tuft whitish. Legs broken.
Fore wing narrow, oblong, costa with a long costal fold to 3/4, slightly curved at base, and
less so along posterior fourth, apex obtusely pointed (damaged in both wings), termen sinuate, obli-
que. Fore wing fulvous-purple, markings silvery-white and evenly dark-grey, with a faint anthra-
cite gloss. Posterior fourth of costa with four pairs of transverse marks, large, becoming larger
posterad; ultimate pair subapical; an oblong patch from base below costal fold, along basai third
of wing, dilated posterad; two inwards-oblique transverse white fasciae from below costal fold,
first slightly beyond middle, second halfway termen, not quite reaching dorsum, that is suffused
with silvery-grey ; first fascia clavate in left wing, second fascia with an angulate process posterad
(in right wing partly erased), before termen replaced by a V-shaped silvery glossy mark. Cilia pur-
pie? (rubbed).
Hind wing grey-bronze, with a moderate gloss. Cilia concolorous, with a distinct white basai
line.
Maie genitalia. Tegumen rather spherically dilated, top abruptly, base gradually narrowed.
Socius an irregular, strongly corrugated sclerite, concave, with projecting angles, thinly bristled.
Valva with very narrow médian part; sacculus short-bristled. Aedeagus moderate, cornuti repre-
sented by a plate with weakly dentate upper surface.
Madagascar Centre : Massif de l'Andringitra, Anjavidilava, forêt Imaitso,
2 030 m, 19-1-1958 (P. Griveaud), 1 male, holotype, GS 5889.
Xenosocia argyritis, n. sp. (fig. 10, 41)
Male 15,5 mm. Head pale ochreous, a flat tuft over face, broad, roughish lateràlly, whitish
mixed with ochreous. Antenna fuscous, scape pale ochreous. Palpus rather long, median segmenl
dilated by roughish fine hair-scales above and beneath, appressed lateràlly, terminal segment short,
very slender, partly concealed; basai segment white, median pale ochreous, terminal fuscous. Tho-
rax anteriorly and tegulae ochreous-orange, remainder silvery-white. Abdomen light grey.
Fore wing rather narrow, oblong, costa with a fold to beyond middle, costa gently curved
along this, slighdy prominent at 2/3, almost straight posteriorly, apex obtusely pointed, termen sinuate,
concave above, rounded beneath. Light orange-fuscous, markings glossy silvery-white. Costal fold
with a narrow submarginal white streak, costa beyond fold and upper half of terminal area suffused
with light tawny, along costal edge with dark fuscous, with three pairs of long silvery transverse
strigulae, becoming larger posterad, last one subapical ; a rather broad white streak below costal
fold from base to 2/3 of wing, including a narrow tawny transverse mark at 1/3 of its length, very
outwards-oblique and another broad oblique mark at 2/3 ; a silvery transverse fascia in middle strongly
angulate posterad, from below 2/3 of costa to fold well before its end ; lower half of terminal area
glossy pale golden ; dorsum pale golden with a light chestnut streak from base running between
fold and vein la, interrupted by an oval white spot in middle of wing ; a small chestnut spot above
end of fold; some faint vertical pale golden lines before termen. Cilia worn.
Hind wing with veins 3 and 4 long-stalked ; pale tawny-grey becoming tawny towards apex,
almost whitish towards base. Cilia concolorous (damaged).
Male genitalia. Tegumen with basai part rather narrowed, constricted at top. Uncus with
a rather long basai part and a short point. Socius small, a simple slightly curved short process with
a dilated base, thickened edges and a short narrowed top, moderately curved mesad. Valva rather
straight and long; sacculus with a rounded-rectangular top, excision oblong, « neck » convex in
middle; cucullus transversely-oval, slightly oblique. Aedeagus moderate, rather slender; cornuti
a sheaf of straight spines.
