- SOMMAIRE Tome 25. N° 4. Octobre-Décembre 1989
thence rectangular and vertical to dorsum ; a triangular white spot along posterior half of dorsal
edge of patch, top of triangle shifted anterad, to centre of patch; central fascia rather broad, lower
2/3 dilated to twice the width on costa, anterior edge less outwards-oblique than that of basai patch,
towards dorsum slighdy narrowed again, interrupted on end above fold, interruption wider poste-
riorly ; dorsal patch of fascia darker fuscous ; costa with blackish minute marks between patch and
fascia, beyond fascia with six transverse blotches ; first of these minute, second largest, following
four gradually becoming larger and wider spaced ; last dot apical ; apical third of wing slightly den-
ser suffused with pale grey ; a slender black strigula along extreme margin of 2/3 of termen. Cilia
whitish, touched with grey.
Hind wing rather trapezoidal, pale grey with a golden gloss. Cilia glossy pale grey.
Maie genitalia. Tegumen rather low, triangular. Uncus formed by a depressed basai projec-
tion with at its top a T-shaped small porrected process. Socii subsclerotic, robust, pending, plate-
like sclerites, tordated in middle, with outer and lower ends long-bristled ; their upper half forming
a rising, naked sclerite. Valva long and narrow, clavate at base and apex, sacculus short, top angu-
late, edge brisdy; top discoidal with recurving bristles, lower edge slightly produced, two pairs
of marginal spines.
Isole Comore : Grande Comore, l-X-1952 (C. Prola), 1 male, holotype, GS 2624.
A small, distinctly marked species, with a distinctly haired tibia in male. Both spé-
cimens available are in poor condition, but with the characteristic parts intact and distinct.
Apparendy allied with the type-species, M. eusemia Diakonoff, from the Seychelles Islands.
XENOSOCIA, n. gen.
Head with long scales dense on vertex and forrning an obtuse transverse crest between antennae
and diversly shaped crests on face. Antenna slightly thickened in male, very short-ciliate below,
almost simple, finely pubescent in female. Haustellum short. Maxillary palpi not perceptible. Ocel-
lus posterior sometimes concealed. Labial palpus long, porrected, gently sinuate, median segment
long, gently down-curved, with rather dense, usually appressed scales (above sometimes oblong-
oval), dilated with roughesh short scales above and beneath, terminal segment porrected, slender,
rather long acute. Thorax without a crest. Abdomen normal. Posterior tibia smooth.
Fore wing with or without a costal fold in male, long and narrow, costa gently curved ante-
riorly, almost straight posteriorly, apex obtusely pointed, termen slightly concave above, weakly
rounded below, oblique. Vein 1b rather short-furcate at base, 2 from just beyond middle of lower
edge of cell, 3 from angle, 4 close to 3 and parallel throughout, both these veins curving up towards
margin, becoming widely distant from end of vein 2, 7 to termen, 8 and 9 approximated at base,
10 distant, 11 from just beyond middle of cell, chorda présent, its cell narrow, median branch almost
obliterate, except in middle, but even there hardly traceable.
Hind wing oblong-subtriangular, with a cubital pecten. Vein 2 from beyond middle of lower
edge of cell, 3 and 4 long-stalked from angle or coïncident, 5 more or less approximated at base,
6 and 7 closely approximated towards base, at last fused towards base.
Male genitalia. Tegumen broad, sides convex, shoulders narrowed and rather rounded-
rectangular. Uncus a broad tube, ending in a narrower point or hook. Gnathos absent. Socii sclero-
tic, of widely diverse shapes, mostly upturned hooks. Valva very narrow, sacculus 1/3, moderate,
in type-species with pointed end, cucullus small, mosdy triangular, diversely spined along margin.
Caulis dilated and cup-like, eut away in front. Aedeagus moderate, straight, dilated towards base.
Female genitalia. Ovipositor lobes narrowed and curved on lower half. Sterigma strongly
modified, seventh ventrite being rather conical, with a median excision reaching 2/3 across, so for-
ming a pair of large lateral lobes, gradually narrowed and rounded above; lamella postvaginalis
an erect semioval sclerite, small ostium situated at its foot, simple, not enlarged, flanked by a pair
of small dark contiguous sclerites, lower edge notched in middle. Colliculum not defined, ductus
bursae rather short and straight, rigid and sclerotic instead. Corpus bursae simple, ovoidal. Signa
absent.
Type-species : Xenosocia panegyrica, n. sp.
An interesting new genus, characteristic by the sclerotic, hooked and often porrec-
ted socii. The species are similar as to the facies : narrow, pointed wings, rather long por-
rected and acute palpi, although widely diverging by the coloration, pattern and markings.
