groups associating taxa whose larvae remain unknown, or undescribed, with certain genera
placed in the tribe on account of "La". These five imaginai apomorphies are : Sp (scape mar-
kedly elongate), Wv (wing vestiaire translucent, mostly made up of V-shaped scales), VI (pre-
sence of veinlets, in the forewing, between Se and the costa), Rs (forewing with less than four
Rs branches), Ce (maie genitalia : inner surface of the valva with a subtriangular, ventrally pro-
jecting, "tooth" that arises from the ventro-median area of the costa).
On the basis of all these apomorphies, the following generic names can be assigned to
the Nudariini : Amalea Herrich-Schâffer, 1855 (objective synonym of Nudaria), Amalodeta
Meyrick, 1889 (Wv, Rs), Ammatho Walker, 1855 (subj. syn. of Miltochrista), Barsine Walker,
1854 (subj. syn. of Miltochrista), Bizone Walker, 1854 (subj. syn. of Cyana), Cabarda Walker,
1863 (subj. syn. of Miltochrista), Calligenia Duponchel, [1845] (subj. syn. of Miltochrista),
ding to LERAUT, 1997), Cyana Walker, 1854 (La : Gardner, 1944), Dictenus Butler, 1897 (subj.
syn. of Thumatha), Doliche Walker, 1854 (subj. syn. of Cyana), Eriomastyx Rothschild &
Jordan, 1905 (Sp, Wv, VI, Rs), Exotrocha Meyrick, 1886 (subj. syn. of Cyana), Gnophrioides
Heylaerts, 1891 (subj. syn. of Cyana), Gymnochroma Hampson, 1900 (Sp, Wv, Rs),
Hemipsilia Hampson, 1900 (Sp, Wv, Rs), Homopsyche Butler, 1882 (subj. syn. of Chamaita),
Macronola Kirby, 1892 (obj. syn. of Cyana), Miltochrista Hubner, [1819] (La), Nelopa
Billberg, 1820 (obj. syn. of Nudaria), Neobrocha Meyrick, 1886 (subj. syn. of Cyana),
Nudaria Haworth, [1809] (La, Sp, Wv, Rs), Nudaridia Hampson, 1900 (Ge), Paidia Hubner,
[1819] (La), Palaeopsis Hampson, 1893 (Wv, Rs), Pelobrochis Lucas, 1892 (subj. syn. of
Thumatha), Phaneropseustis Turner, 1899 (subj. syn. of Schistophleps), Psilopepla Turner,
1899 (Sp, Wv, Rs), Schistophleps Hampson, 1891 (Wv, VI), Sesapa Walker, 1854 (subj. syn.
of Miltochrista), Sphragidium Butler, 1887 (subj. syn. of Cyana), Teinomastyx Hampson, 1914
(Sp, Wv, VI, Rs), Thumatha Walker, 1866 (La, Ge), Trichota Rambur, 1866 (obj. syn. of
Nudaria).
The larval morphology (GARDNER, 1944; NISHIHARA, 1992b) shows that Asura calama-
ria (Moore, 1888), A. dharma (Moore, 1879) and probably many other "Asura's" also belong
- clearly — to the Nudariini. However, the genus Asura Walker, 1854 - sensu auct. — is doubt-
fully monophyletic and, as far as we know, the larval chaetotaxy of its type-species has never
been described.
Geographical range. - As here delimited, the tribe is only known to occur in the Old
World.
Discussion. -As already mentioned in the discussion section about the Eudesmiini, the
Nudariini differ from the Phryganopterygini, Endrosini and Lithosiini in the morphology of the
ventral, basai region of the imaginai abdomen. They have no areole to the forewing, an apo-
morphy shared with the Eudesmiini and Cisthenini but also, probably as a resuit of parallel
evolution, with the Endrosini. In their ground plan, the Nudariini possess neither the above-
mentioned eudesmiine autapomorphies, nor the apomorphy (loss of larval verrucae) proposed
for the characterization of the Cisthenini.
The most reliable autapomorphy (1) of the Nudariini is the loss, on segments A1-A8 of
the larva, of discrète verrucae D1. Two further autapomorphies may be, in the imago, (2) the
well defined band of fine, close-set strigae visible - laterally - on the metepisternum (thèse are
distinct from the microtymbals) and (3) the absence of an opening on the posterior wall of the
"tergal rim" (the tergal rim opening being shifted ventro-cephalad). Apomorphy 2 also occurs,
probably through homoplasy, in a few Cisthenini, while the presence of apomorphy 3 in the
Lithosiini, several Cisthenini and certain Endrosini, indisputably results from a parallel evolu-
tion.
Within the Nudariini, Paidia and Cyana are closely related, sharing at least three syna-
pomorphies : on the larval meso-/metathorax, D and SD2 are merged into a single verruca; the
forewing of the male shows, ventrally, a projecting lobe near the base of Rs1; in the hindwing,
groups associating taxa whose larvae remain unknown, or undescribed, with certain genera
placed in the tribe on account of "La". These five imaginai apomorphies are : Sp (scape mar-
kedly elongate), Wv (wing vestiaire translucent, mostly made up of V-shaped scales), VI (pre-
sence of veinlets, in the forewing, between Se and the costa), Rs (forewing with less than four
