Attwootf, Thomas, geb. 23. J\ov. 1765 in London, gest. 24. (28?) Mârz 1838 in Chelsea (London). Chorknabe an der Kgl. Kapelle, ging spftter auf Kosten des Prinzen von Wales nach Italien und studierte in Neapel unter El Cinque u. G. Latilla. Von da aus 1785 nach Wien zu Mozart (Kelly's Reminisc. 1, 225). Im Febr. 1787 kehrte er in die Heimat zuriick, wurde Organist an St. George in London u. Mitglied der Kapelle des Prinzen von Wales. 1796 Organist u. Choral-Vikar an St. Paul, und Komponist an der Kgl. Kapelle, 1821 Organist an der Privatkapelle Kg. Georg IY.^u Brighton, und 1836 Organist an der Kgl. Kapelle. Er war einer der Mitbegrunder der Philharmonie society (1813) und leitete einige Jahre die Auffiihrungen derselben. Als Komponist war er von seinen Landsleuten sehr geschôtzt. Man schrieb ihm bis jetzt auch den Druck ,,Cathedral Music", London o. 1856 zu, der seinem Namen den Zusatz ,,Walmisleya giebt und hielt ihn fur den Geburtsort obigen Thomas. Der Thomas Attwood Walmisley ist aber am 21. Jan. 1814 zu London geb. und starb den 17. Jan. 1856 ebd. (Davey 435. 474. Grove. Stephen. N. Z. f. Mus. 8, 138.)
